You don’t have to be a DIY expert or a seasoned camper to help young people gain skills for life. Whether you’re looking to give something back, boost your CV, or simply try something new, there’s a place for you in our team. Volunteering with Scouts isn't just about the young people, it’s about finding a community, learning new things, and having a great time while you’re at it.
We know life is busy, so we make volunteering as flexible as possible. You can help out behind the scenes, lead a team, or get stuck into weekly adventures. No matter how much time you have to give, you’ll be making a massive difference to the lives of young people in our area.
Check out our current opportunities below and find the role that fits you.
District Volunteer Development Team (Team Lead and Team Members)
Help make sure volunteering with us is fun, easy, and rewarding. You’ll be the friendly face that welcomes new volunteers, making sure they feel supported from day one and know exactly what they are doing.
This role is perfect for a real 'people person' who loves helping others grow. You’ll help volunteers learn new skills by planning training opportunities and working with our expert trainers. Just as importantly, you’ll make sure our amazing volunteers get the 'thank yous' they deserve through the Scout Good Service Awards. Whether you want to dive into everything the team does or just focus on the parts you enjoy most, like welcoming new people or planning celebrations, we would love to have you.
District Chair
As District Chair, you’ll lead our Trustee Board – a dedicated team making sure local Scouts runs safely, legally, and smoothly. You don't need to know how to pitch a tent to make a massive difference; your leadership here makes all the weekly adventures possible.
You’ll be the guiding hand for our finances, risk management, and the district campsite, always making sure we are following Charity Commission rules. You’ll also plan our meetings, lead the Annual General Meeting, and stay in touch with Group Chairs across the district. It is an incredibly rewarding role for someone who likes keeping things organised, safe, and focused on the big picture.
14 to 24 Team Leader
Be the go-to support for the volunteers running Explorers, Scout Network, and Young Leaders. This age group is at a fantastic stage in life, and you will help their volunteer teams plan and run brilliant, engaging programmes that prepare these young adults for the real world.
You’ll act as a mentor and a sounding board for the section teams. You’ll also play a vital, serious role in keeping everyone safe by ensuring any incidents or safeguarding worries are quickly and correctly passed on to the National Safeguarding team. It is a brilliant mix of creative programme support and responsible oversight.
Network Team Lead
Scout Network is for 18 to 25-year-olds who want to keep up their Scouts adventure, whether they’re going for their King’s Scout Award, DofE Gold, or the Explorer Belt. We’re looking for a brilliant facilitator to help kick-start a brand-new Network section.
Because Network members are adults, you aren't a traditional 'leader' telling them what to do. Instead, you’ll work closely with them to shape what the group does and where it goes next. You'll help them achieve their bucket-list goals and build a community.
Group Lead Volunteers
Step up to support and guide our amazing adult volunteers. You’ll be their manager, their problem-solver, and their biggest cheerleader. By helping our adult volunteers thrive and feel motivated, you free them up to do what they do best, delivering brilliant activities for young people.
You are the glue that holds the group together. No previous Scouts experience is necessary for this role; it is much more about being a great listener, a team builder, and a steady hand. We’ll give you all the training and support you need to lead the team with confidence.
Explorer Team (Team Lead and Team Members)
Help young people aged 14 to 18 learn new skills, make friends, and gain true independence. At this age, Scouts are ready for big adventures, from international trips to designing their own weekly programmes.
We currently have four active units, plus one that needs a brand-new team to bring it back to life. Whether you step up as a Team Lead or a Team Member, every week is different, fun, and packed with chances to make a real, lasting impact on young people right before they step into adulthood.
District Beaver Team Lead
Beavers is where the adventure starts for young people aged 6 to 8. It is high energy, noisy, and full of fun. As the District Team Lead, you aren't running the weekly meetings; instead, you’ll support the brilliant Beaver teams across the whole district.
You'll run planning meetings to share ideas and help put on awesome, larger-than-life district-wide events for the Beavers to enjoy together. Experience with this age group is a bonus, but it isn't essential. If you are enthusiastic and organised, we’ve got plenty of ways to help you learn the ropes.
District Scout Team Lead
Scouts is for young people aged 10½ to 14, an age where they are really mastering skills like cooking on fires, navigating, and leading each other. In this role, you’ll guide and support the local Scout teams across the district to deliver the best possible programmes.
You’ll organise regular planning meetings so volunteers can share their best ideas, and you'll help bring exciting district-wide competitions and events to life. Don't worry if you haven't worked with this age group before, we'll give you all the training you need to feel confident supporting our volunteers.
