Deputy District Commissioner People

The aim of this role is to support the District Commissioner in the management of the Scout District to ensure it runs effectively and that Scouting within the District develops in accordance with the rules and policies of The Scout Association so that that the District provides good quality Scouting for young people and proactively supports and manages adults in the District. We are looking for someone, over the age of eighteen, with the capacity to become an inspirational leader, who can motivate and support adult volunteers. The new Deputy District Commissioner will have excellent communication skills, and be able to lead a team and construct and implement long term plans. The Deputy District Commissioner will be responsible for the implementation of several strategic objectives; although these will be discussed at a later date, taking into account skills and experiences.

Deputy District Commissioner Programme

The aim of this role is to support the District Commissioner in the management of the Scout District to ensure it runs effectively and that Scouting within the District develops in accordance with the rules and policies of The Scout Association so that the District provides good quality Scouting for young people and proactively supports and manages adults in the District.

Assistant District Commissioner - Beaver Section

This role works in partnership with District Commissioner to ensure that effective operation of the Beaver Scout Section in their District in accordance with the rules as laid down in POR of The Scout Association.

Your main tasks would be to:

  • Ensure purpose, method, policies and programme are carried out throughout the Section in the District

  • Assist GSLs in the encouragement of all Leaders in the Section to provide a balanced programme

  • Co-operate with DC to support all Leaders and Commissioners in matters relating to the Section and its Leaders

  • Promote and encourage the Section in the implementation of all policies of The Scout Association, especially the key policies as laid
    down in Chapter 2 of POR

  • Liaise with District Administrators

  • Maintain a working relationship with DC, other ADC (Beaver Scouts) and other Commissioners within the District

  • Work in partnership with DC in the management of the District and the Section’s programme and activities

  • Maintain contact relevant to the Section age group with in the local community

  • Promote the Section’s Scouting to the local Community

  • Support the DC in the development of the District.

Local Training Manager

This role assists the County Training Manager in managing the Training and Learning process in a given area of responsibility.

Your main tasks would be to:

  • Act as line manager for Local Training Administrators (recruit, induct, support and carry out appointment reviews).

  • Act as line manager for Training Advisers.

  • Plan and ensure the delivery of the learning provision in their area of responsibility so that all adults in Scouting completing a personal learning plan have access to suitable learning opportunities using a variety of methods.

  • Ensure that people involved in the learning provision are suitably qualified (have attained or are working towards the relevant role specific Modules).

  • Make Wood Badge recommendation within their responsibility.

  • Provide training opportunities locally.

District Secretary

The District Secretary supports the District Chair to ensure the smooth functioning and sound administration of the District. They will work with the Chair to organise routine meetings including the AGM. They will also set the agenda, take and distribute meeting minutes and maintain accurate records for the District. The District Secretary will also assist in the completion of the annual census and ensure the safety and security of records maintained by the Executive Committee. All members of the District Executive must be willing and able to be a Trustee of the Charity.
